Veterinary Internship (GP and ECC)
Are you starting out in your veterinary career? Would you like exposure to both Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) and general practice medicine in a structured and supportive environment? A unique opportunity has become available for a new or recent graduate to be mentored in both Emergency and Critical Care and General Practice medicine at two leading veterinary hospitals in Canberra. Canberra Vet Emergency Service (CVES) and Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital (GVH) have teamed up to offer a 12-month internship that allows for a broad set of skills to be developed in a structured and supportive training environment. You will be able to have the best of both worlds, with mentored programs at both practices so you can accelerate your learning and kick-start your career.
About CVES and GVH
CVES is a busy and progressive 24-hour emergency clinic situated in Gungahlin, northern Canberra. They are a trusted leader in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) for small animals and their vision is to set the highest possible standard for ECC medicine in Australia. They accomplish this by consistently providing quality services for small animals, whilst maintaining close relationships with their primary care veterinary practices. They have an inclusive and compassionate team of Client Care Representatives, Management, Nurses and Veterinarians. GVH is one of the premier veterinary practices in the ACT with highly experienced and skilled support staff. They are an ASAVA Accredited Hospital of Excellence and work from a purpose-built hospital, equipped with a full complement of equipment for diagnosis and surgery of most small animal problems. In 2018, they opened Gungahlin Cat Hospital right next door to Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital, providing a feline-friendly, ‘cat specific’ hospital, specially designed to meet the unique needs of cats and ensure that their experience in visiting is as stress-free as possible. Both practices are conveniently located in the same building, so you will be able to work seamlessly between the two throughout the duration of the internship.
The internship at CVES and GVH will allow for recent graduates to gain exposure to a wide variety of cases across two different disciplines. They will be provided with guidance from experienced clinicians highly trained in their field. Training will involve attending consultations and assisting with diagnostic investigations, surgical procedures across both disciplines, client communication and routine procedures. Interns will progress from shadowing to primary case management under supervision to allow them to develop confidence in their clinical skills while help is close by. Upon completion of the internship, graduates will have the opportunity to continue with one or both disciplines as a full-time member of the team.
- Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (or equivalent)
- Must be eligible for veterinary registration in the state of ACT and hold a current radiation license.
- Availability to work on a rotating roster across weekdays, nights, weekends and public holidays.
Remuneration is competitive and based on experience and qualifications.
Applicants that are interested in a full-time internship are welcome to apply. With a balance of clinical shifts across both ECC and general practice, this internship provides a great introduction into the veterinary industry and is not to be missed!
